Those in the millennial generation were born between 1981 and 1996, while those in Gen Z were born between 1997 and 2012. In 2019, millennials are between 22 and 38 years old and Gen Zers are between six and 21 years old.

The millennials! Marked by adolescence bookended by 9/11 on one side and the Great Recession on the other, millennials have had it rough, and it shows: They’re scrappy and angry, and they’re not putting up with it anymore. And in this corner, we have a group of bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Gen Zers, coming up fast in a world of deep-fried memes and an ironic detachment. Research shows that Gen Z -- which has been called the "socially-conscious generation -- deals with far more body image, mental health, and cyberbullying issues than any other age group has in the past. Experts have also called Gen Z the loneliest generation despite all of their digital connectivity options. Gen Z has never known an ‘unconnected’ existence, whereas most Millennials can remember what life was like before smart phones and Facebook, which only became prominent around 2008, and probably also experienced ‘dial-up’ internet, floppy disks and cassette players, Gen Z was practically born with an iphone in their hands. Thus, they are even more avid followers of social media than Millennials. Realistic vs Optimistic Seventy-seven percent of Generation Z expect to work harder than previous generations. Millennials became optimistic thanks to their encouraging Baby Boomer parents and growing up in a time of prosperity and opportunity.

Generation Z will be realistic thanks to their skeptical and straight-shooting Generation X parents and growing up in a recession. Independent vs Collaborative Seventy-one percent of Generation Z said they believe the phrase "if you want it done right, then do it yourself." When given the option to arrange a group of desks, Millennials would opt for a collaborative arrangement and assemble the desks into a circle. Generation Z will be more competitive with their colleagues and will harness a do-it-yourself mentality at work.
